New Orleans to ensure that all volunteer projects are properly supervised, equipped and successful.
Homes and Homelessness
Since Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans has had one of the highest rates of blighted properties in the country, and there is still a sizable homeless population.
Opportunities include working with one of the following:
- Clearing vacant lots
- Painting houses
- Flooring and dry-walling
- Insulating houses
Environmental
New Orleans exists because of the environment but also at its mercy. As result, many community organizations have been working tirelessly to ensure the region’s environmental sustainability and success.
Opportunities include working with one of the following:
- Planting trees and native plants
- Removing invasive species
- Testing air, water, and soil quality
- Supporting conservation efforts
Urban Gardens
Many New Orleans community organizations have been working to improve and promote healthy eating and lifestyles.
Opportunities include working with one of the following:
- Working in community gardens
- Increasing nutritional awareness
- Working in farmers markets
- Helping at a local food bank
